Who you are: 

The Associate Director oversees, in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Centre Director, the planning and delivery of all CIEE programs. This comprises coordinating tasks among various team members; overseeing the implementation of guidelines and policies; monitoring logistics and operations; and supporting staff in charge of courses and faculty members. 

This position oversees, in collaboration with the Center Director and the Academic team, the coordination, quality, and planning of all academic content relating to the Paris Centre including courses, educational programming, internships, custom programming, HSSA, First Year Abroad delivery year-round for CIEE Paris. It is the job of the Associate Director to provide intellectual leadership and to ensure a rigorous, engaging, and supportive learning environment across programs. 

The Associate Director is also available to teach courses in their area of expertise. 


What you’ll do:  

  • Deputize for the Centre Director or act as interim during their absence. This will include staff and building management, health and safety, and oversight of all CIEE Paris programs.
  • Communicating with various stakeholders at all levels of the institution, including directors and coordinators of areas, to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Develop, oversee, and foster existing and new strategic partnerships with other local universities. 
  • Academic oversight of all CIEE Paris programs, including Open Campus Block, Global Internship, Custom programs, Direct Enroll programs at local universities, High School, First year Abroad, GAP year, etc. 
  • Ensure, in collaboration with the Center Director, that the academic department meets its goals in the planning and delivery of the CIEE Paris programs (semester, January term, summer), high school, custom programs, internship-based academic programs, and other programs as needed. This includes but is not limited to overseeing the hiring of qualified academic faculty; evaluating faculty through classroom observations and student evaluations; providing faculty development opportunities; the timely and accurate production, of course, syllabi and materials; ensuring faculty make effective use of the CIEE learning management system (Canvas); student advising and course registration activities, final registration, student grade report preparation and submission, and requests for special academic exceptions, complaints, appeals, etc. 
  • Take responsibility for special program projects. This may include components of the program design, communications revamp projects, etc. 
  • Review program and course evaluations and create action plans for improvement and development in collaboration with the Center Director and Academic Director. 
  • Facilitate student communications with appropriate administrative staff at their home schools, as necessary. 
  • Participate in the writing and editing of program materials (promotional, marketing, website copy, bulletins, handbooks, syllabi, etc.) 
  • Respond in a timely manner to all questions, issues, problems, and needs of stakeholders (students, home schools, site staff, enrollment advisors, etc.), as assigned. 
  • Participate in the emergency staff-on-duty telephone rotation system.
  • Other duties as required.

What you’ll bring: 

  • Education – Ph.D. degree required. 
  • Organization – Ability to reconcile statistics and handle multiple ongoing tasks and prioritize within a complex administrative environment. 
  • Communication – Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and needs to be enthusiastic about working with and giving time as motivator and educator to our students. 
  • Extremely strong customer service skills: ability to resolve often high-ambiguity issues fairly and expediently. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Flexibility – Must be flexible and be able to respond quickly to changing circumstances. 
  • Flexibility – Open to changes in operational procedures, technology, and/or organizational structure. 
  • Flexibility – Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings, as required. 
  • Technology – Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new programs quickly (Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas, Salesforce, etc.). 
  • Local Expertise – Detailed knowledge of French culture and history, an understanding of the higher education system in France. 
  • Ability to embrace CIEE’s Core Values (Excellence, Integrity, Respect, Inclusion, and Problem Solving) and culture. 
  • Familiarity with U.S. culture and higher education and direct experience with U.S. college and university students is a plus.
  • Relevant work experience, preferably in Paris.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, and French and in English.
